Book #11: "Rebecca"

Book #11: "Rebecca"
By Daphne DuMaurier

I had started this book before "The White Queen", but just didn't have the time needed to really delve in and get to the meat of it, so it started out a bit slow for me.  Anyone else have those books where you read a few minutes before going to sleep, then a few minutes the next day before heading to the store, and before you know if you've been "reading" this book for 2 weeks without feeling invested at all?  That was this book for me, so I just set it aside, read another book and came back to it.  I was SO surprised, then, to get hooked within just a matter of minutes!

This is the story of an unnamed, simple girl who finds herself caught up in an unlikely series of events and married to a fabulously wealthy man before she knows what's happened to her.  While their honeymoon is lovely, as soon as they return to his estate, she finds herself entangled in expectations and people who dearly loved the previous mistress of the house: Rebecca.  She becomes increasingly aware of mysterious events and circumstances surrounding the death of the previous Mrs. deWinter, and eventually all is revealed, leaving the reader (me!) totally enthralled and caught off guard.

Ended up really loving the book...I love when that happens!

I guess there's an old movie about the book that I'm excited to see.  Thanks for the book loan Lianne!
